Photos: Declan McKenna at Albert Hall, Manchester Ethan Weatherby January 20, 2017 Pressure’s high on Declan McKenna. Only just turned 18 and lionised as a great young hope for Brit indie, there’s a lot of weight on those shoulders – especially when opening for Cage The Elephant. Once gawkish and unsure in front of a crowd, McKenna now looks like a true frontman, racing round and giving it large with his socially-primed belters. New belter ‘The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home‘ is razor-sharp, and breakout hit ‘Brazil’ goes down a storm. With the place heaving and bouncing by the end of his set, it’s absurd how McKenna already commands venues of this size, which can swallow the most versed of acts. The future’s bright for the young upstart. Words and photos by Ethan Weatherby.
