The kindred indie-folk spirits have both released new music simultaneously. This comes after teaming up last year for the critically acclaimed album Lotta Sea Lice and the sequential tour.
‘One Trick Ponies’ which you can listen to below, is the first new music from Kurt Vile since the 2017 duet album. ‘Small Talk’ on the other hand comes soon after the release of Barnett’s second album Tell Me How You Really Feel from May this year.
‘One Trick Ponies’ – (a classically Kurt Vile titled song) is a classic Kurt vile track. Full of witty lyrics and jangly guitars the single is a tipsily swaying, big-hearted country-rock release.
The campfire-chorus features a harmonisation with Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa. ‘One Trick Ponies’ is taken from Vile’s upcoming album Bottle It In – set for release next Friday, October 12.
Vile will then be going on tour with The Violators in November. It will be his first in two years. The tour will feature a two-night stop at London’s Shepherd’s Bush.
Meanwhile the deadpan Aussie songwriter, Courtney Barnett is finishing her tour of the US and is about to embark on her next round of UK and European dates. She will be kicking off the UK in Dublin on November 12th. Barnett will then move onto Brixton Academy for November 14th.
Barnett only recently finished the last leg of touring the UK in June. She also supported Patti Smith and Nick Cave at All Points East last May.
‘Small Talk’ is a previously unreleased track from the sessions that birthed Tell Me How You Really Feel. Much like ‘One Trick Ponies’ is to Vile, ‘Small Talk’ is equally synonymous of Barnett’s revered rambling folk style.
It features a country tinged guitar melody and the usual scintillating story telling of Barnett. “I’ve got a brother, Blake he’s four years older than me… and I guess he always will be,” she opens nonchalantly.
