The Leeds scene is essentially built upon a good guitar-thrashing, and Brooders make no qualms about channelling that heritage. The trio label themselves purveyors of pysch grunge, kicking up dust clouds on the underground circuit for a few years  – now they want their audience.

On February 10th they’re putting out a self-titled mini album; six tracks of carefully weighted guitar squall. The swaying ‘Cling’ circles its prey for a while before diving in, whilst Lead bombshell ‘Haze’ goes straight for the jugular. ‘Blue Eyed Prince’ is their most ambitious gambit, riffs coiling like smoke around tender vocals, building to a storm.

For recording Brooders dug in at the city’ Greenmount Studios, a haunt favourited by The Cribs and Pulled Apart By Horses. They’ve more in common with the genre-pushing of the latter, though it’s clear they aspire to the kind of heavy-impact achieved by early Drenge material.
