A true testament to the statement ‘more is more’- Weirds are a sludgy, voracious psych grunge four-piece armed with chaotic synths and scuzzy distortion .
Their hometown of Leeds is built upon no-thrills, guitar-thrashing bands of which Weirds are no exception. Dirty yet dark and seductively ominous, their sound is relentlessly immersive.
Their newest single ‘Valley of Visions’ is an avalanche of gritty feedback, flavoured with wasp synths. Frontman Aidan Razzles’ vocals are grungy and raw but more gloomy than aggressive. The track echoes Slaves when at their most vehement – coated in angry and neurotic components but with a solid pop foundation holding it all together.
With kaleidoscopic aesthetics, hand printed zines and curated live shows, Weirds have an authentic punk aura about them. Previous singles ‘Crocodile’ and ‘Yolk’ show their caustic, psychedelic core, reminiscent of Temples.
The band have previously been on the bills for Download, Tramlines, Handmande and Beacons festivals to name a few. 2017 will see the band on a short headline run in March, including a three-night London residency, followed by their support of The Wytches in April.
Getting spins from Huw Stephens, slots at Camden Rocks and 2,000 Trees festival this year and a planned album release of May, Weirds are on the up for 2017.
