The Eel Pie Island boys are back and this time they’re in possession of one of the most eagerly anticipated albums of 2016. Indie-pop has turned to indie-rock and with it comes the maturation of a band that has all the credentials to finally ascend to the higher tiers of musical stardom, which have so far eluded them.
‘Telomere’ is the first single to be released from their upcoming fifth album ‘Curve of the Earth’, which is set for release on 15th January 2016. The recent psychedelic resurgence is evident upon the new track, which flows with celestial sounds that are made all the more ethereal by lead singer Blaine Harrison, whose unadulterated voice resonates throughout the 3 minutes and 43 seconds of plucky riffs. In contrast to much of the Jets’ previous material, the song has a ballad-esque feel to it, with the band erupting into an explosive finish that truly enables Harrison to showcase his compelling vocal capabilities. In truth, the band sound just as comfortable discussing philosophical meanings as they did waxing lyrically about teenage adolescence.
Initial signs hint at the creation of the band’s most personal and musically defining album to date, with the grandeur of this most recent addition to their burgeoning discography likely to appeal to fans, both old and new. Exciting times lie ahead for Blaine and his boys.
