Fontaines D.C. have shared ‘Televised Mind’, their third single from the upcoming album A Hero’s Death, scheduled for release on 31 July. The track follows the release of the album’s title track and second single ‘I Don’t Belong’.

The track begins with a heavy, repetitive bass line and continues with explosive drums and a monotone rhythm guitar, before second guitar and vocals join. The lyrics are on a loop like a static TV: “That’s a televised mind,” and “What ya call it?” are repeated throughout.

“This song is about the echo chamber, and how personality gets stripped away by surrounding approval. People’s opinions get reinforced by constant agreement, and we’re robbed of our ability to feel wrong,” said frontman, Grian Chatten. He added that the line “What ya call it?” is a typical Dublin expression when people get distracted.

The Dublin-based band named The Prodigy and Brian Jonestown Massacre as main influences whilst creating the track, aiming to achieve a similar “droning, hypnotic feel” as Chatten puts it.

The band have just announced the dates of their upcoming UK tour, starting May 2021. The tour will start at the Manchester Academy on 7 May, and the band will be visiting both Leeds and Sheffield also. Tickets are now available here.
