Photos: Blaenavon at Manchester Deaf Institute Megan Robinson April 3, 2017 Blaenavon’s gig at Manchester’s Deaf Institute last Friday took their live game to another level with mosh pits forming from early on to security having to pull people off of the stage towards the end of the night. Amongst lead’s singer Ben Gregory’s bold lyrics and intense guitar playing, the flashing stage lights and the intimate venue it was hard not to be absorbed by the overwhelming showcase. The set ended with a crowd surf from the singer, the distortion in the speakers echoing until he got slowly engulfed by the crowd. Every track, from ‘Orthodox Man’ to ‘Let’s Pray’ sounded just as polished and impressive as their recorded versions. After playing to around fifty people just 18 months ago at Fallow Cafe on the other side of Manchester, Ben remarked that this much weightier set had been one of their best to date.
