Lit by only flickering candlelight, Ry Cuming looms over the 260-strong crowd in Manchester’s Deaf Institute, all of them spellbound by the enigmatic Australian. Flanked by his band, the trio moved like shadows in a cave, weaving sinews of muscular electronics into haunting folk songs. Hosted by Now Wave as part of his UK tour, it’s a chance to flex sophomore record ‘Dawn’ in an intimate setting, caught in a smoky still-life.
