Preview: Live At Leeds

For one day a year, the venues of Leeds come together and open their doors for collaborative festival Live At Leeds; West Yorkshire’s very own SXSW. This edition is celebrating a decade of the festival, and they’re pulling out all the stops to celebrate: We Are Scientists, Mystery Jets, Ghostpoet, Jess Glynne, Dan Croll and Blossoms are some of this year’s major names. On top of those, it’s also a special homecoming show for noughties icon Corinne Bailey Rae.

The big-hitters are all well and good, but the heart of this festival is its commitment to fledgling talent and future stars stretching past the guitar bands. It’s been a big few years across the pond for hip-hop but a young London lyricist named Loyle Carner is creeping through the cracks in Britain. with him a slick hip-hop show wherever he goes, full of as many chuckles as there are brutally raw vocals. He’s one we’ve had our eye on for a while now as well as The VLM favourites Formation. Be sure to catch them for some LCD Soundsystem style groove and cowbell dance-offs.

Elsewhere Spring King and Sundara Karma continue their run of festival appearances and are bound to win over a new set of fans along the way whilst Rat Boy is probably full to his eyeballs with fan mail (or at his tender age, tweets). The Essex born cheeky chappy already gathered the most peppy crowd on the NME Awards Tour 2016, which lets not forget included Bloc Party, so make sure you’ve saved your energy for this one.

Other acts we think you should check out at Live At Leeds:

Clean Cut Kid

Drones Club

Declan McKenna
