Tom Grennan kicked off his UK tour in Sheffield last night, delving into hits from Evering Road, as well as old favourites from his 2018 debut.
With sold out shows and a clear eagerness to return, the buzz of live music is channeled through the singer-songwriter’s performance as he purposefully strides around the stage to opener ‘If Only’. As fans echo back lyrics from throughout his discography, it’s clear that Tom needn’t rely on older hits, although tracks like ‘Sober’ and set closer ‘Something in the Water’ go down a storm.
It is generally the anthemic fist-punching numbers which shine throughout his set, with the Calvin Harris collab ‘By Your Side’ offering a completely new sound to the show. Grennan’s gritty vocals bring to life the raw emotion carried throughout his new material, all of which sit comfortably inside the walls of a packed O2 Academy.
Not one for big frills, Grennan’s stage is clear for him to roam, which he does so throughout the whole set, rarely remaining in one spot. Armed in a simple white vest, Grennan lets his voice, his songwriting and his natural charisma bring the energy to Sheffield, (with the snazzy flares helping a little as well).
