Over the past few years Heavenly Recordings have played host to the weirder and wonkier side of indie bands. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Hooton Tennis Club and The Orielles all live among the Heavenly rooster and now so do equally ludicrously named Boy Azooga.

The Cardiff psych-pop band dropped their debut track ‘Face Behind Her Cigarette’ on their new label just earlier this week and it’s creating quite a storm. Music tastemaker Matt Wilkinson gave it a spin on his new music show on Beats 1 and fellow Welsh outfit Estrons had the band supporting them in London last month.¬†Frontman Davey Newington says the track is a tribute to Nigerian funk musician William Onyeabor and it certainly stands out from the get go with hefty percussion and bleeping synths. Fans of Hot Chip, Django Django and Boxed In will find dance floor solace in this.

Listen to ‘Face Behind Her Cigarette’ below¬†or see them live in November/December. They’ll be playing in Cardiff, Manchester and London before the year’s out.
