Arlo Parks has debuted her new single ‘Black Dog’ as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record.

The 19-year-old poet from South London teased the track during live performances, where she explained it was written for a friend “who is no longer with us”.

Parks told Annie Mac that she wrote the song when “a lot of people around [her] were struggling with mental health.

“I feel like conversations are opening up but it’s still important to address even though it’s difficult. I feel like it’s specifically relevant to this time as well,” said Parks

The track flaunts the young talent’s songwriting as she balances the personal connection with the track with universally relatable lyrics. The opening line: “I’d lick the grief right off your lips,” is especially poignant.
