Courtney Barnett has released ‘Write A List Of Things To Look Forward To’, the latest cut from her upcoming album Things Take Time, Take Time to be released, 12 November 2021.
The track is an ode to cherishing friendships, with the chorus lyrics reading: “I’m looking forward to the next letter that I’m gonna’ get from you”.

The new song follows previous singles ‘Rae Street’ and ‘Before You Gotta Go’ also due to feature on Barnett’s third solo album released via Marathon Artists.
“I found a deeper communication with people in my life – deeper conversations. And a new level of gratitude for friendships that had been there for so long that I had maybe taken for granted,” Barnett said of the track.
‘Write A List of Things To Look Forward To’ takes its name from the technique one of Barnett’s friends advocated for her to get her out of a ‘depressive funk’, and paints a bittersweet picture of small wins.
Barnett also released an accompanying video with the single, directed by Christina Xing, which sees her receiving increasingly large items of post, all addressed to ‘Rae Street’, the title of the upcoming album’s lead single. You can view the video below.
The new single and video follows Barnett releasing a statement where she acknowledged the similarities between her latest music video for ‘Before You Gotta Go’ and a clip produced by fellow Melbourne band Quivers.
“I thought I had come up with a beautiful, original idea for a video, but it seems like I was wrong,” said Barnett on Twitter.
“Any similarities are completely coincidental and if I had seen this clip when I was making mine I would have completely changed my concept or the way we explored it”.
I thought I had come up with a beautiful, original idea for a video, but it seems like I was wrong! I’d like to introduce you to Melbourne band Quivers and director, Nina Renee, who had the same idea way before me.
