If you think you have a way with words and love your music then we want to hear from you.
The VLM is supported by our fantastic writers and we are always looking to grow this network. After all, the more great writers we have, the more great content we produce. It’s that simple.
Equally we are always looking to take on photographers, creatives or any other collaborative partners.
We cannot offer any paid opportunities. What we can offer is the chance to build your portfolio, get early access to albums, and the opportunity get into gigs and festivals free. All we require is a good piece of writing to follow (usually in the form of a review).
If this sounds like music to your ears then fill out the form below. Slap in your name, email address, and an example of some of your best work and we will be in touch.
It may also be useful to send a separate email to email@example.com if you wish to send any files. Please put the subject title as ‘Contributing for The VLM’ if you do this.
Do I need to live in Sheffield, Leeds or Manchester? Not at all. Despite focusing on these cities we are still looking for news articles, features and album reviews that are not location specific. We only do live reviews from these three cities however.
Will I be paid? Fraid’ not. But there are perks of gig passes, early albums and interview opportunities.
Do I need experience? Nope. It is beneficial but not necessary. We do require you to be able to show some writing ability but we want to encourage talent and help you gain a platform to write about music. If we are happy with your writing, we will add you to our community group on social media, where we send out opportunities for reviews.
When will I hear back? As soon as possible. Please nudge us if you don’t get a reply. This is not our full time job so we cannot guarantee a speedy reply. We will respond to all requests though.
I am a photographer, can I help? Yes! We pride ourselves in our visual content and often have features solely on photos.
What can you offer me? The VLM is a great way to have your writing published and will add to your portfolio. You will get the opportunity to listen to albums early, the chance to get into gigs with a review pass and also some opportunities to interview musicians you love. In the past we have had interviews with Wolf Alice, Frank Turner and Declan McKenna.
I am a musician and want to be featured on The VLM, how did I go about this? Please send over your music to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Soundcloud or Youtube links are preferred to raw files. And please don’t send anything with a very large file size. A little background info on yourself is always welcome too. It is not essential to be from Sheffield, Leeds or Manchester but do let us know if you are from either of these cities.
How often will I need to write articles? Whenever you have the time. We often ask for one article when you join but otherwise there is no pressure.
